Saskatchewan continues to demonstrate economic strength as new data highlights the momentum taking place across our province. Statistics Canada reports that manufacturing sales increased by 9.6 per cent in May 2026 compared to April 2026, while wholesale trade grew by 17.3 per cent compared to May 2025. Saskatchewan ranked first among provinces for both month-over-month manufacturing sales growth and year-over-year wholesale trade growth. These results demonstrate the confidence businesses have in Saskatchewan and reflect our province’s ability to compete in markets around the world.

A strong economy creates opportunities for families and communities, and that momentum is also reflected in Saskatchewan’s housing sector. New data from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation shows housing starts increased by 100.3 per cent from June 2025 to June 2026, ranking second among provinces. New home construction is creating jobs, supporting the construction sector and helping communities grow across Saskatchewan.

Building on our commitment to accessible, high-quality health care, our government has introduced a new Continuing Care Strategy focused on helping more residents live independently at home and in their communities for longer. Developed with input from more than 200 stakeholders representing 1,500 citizens, the strategy aligns with the Patients First Health Care Plan. New funding of $9.2 million will enhance rural and remote dementia programming, improve home care services, strengthen inspections and oversight, and provide staffing for new beds in communities such as Regina and La Ronge.

Helping Saskatchewan residents access the supports they need, improvements to the Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disability (SAID) program will take effect September 1, 2026. These changes will simplify the program, improve access to benefits and expand the Living Income Benefit. Forty per cent of SAID clients will see an increase in benefits, making life more affordable for approximately 7,200 individuals and families across Saskatchewan. No current clients will see a reduction in their benefits as a result of these improvements.

Protecting Saskatchewan communities remains a priority as updates to the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program regulations expand assistance for individuals, small businesses and other eligible claimants while improving recovery and mitigation supports. The changes apply retroactively to April 1, 2026, including recent flooding events. Information and available supports can be found at here.

As we enjoy the summer months, Saskatchewan parks and outdoor spaces continue to provide opportunities for residents and visitors to explore our province. New business partnerships in provincial parks are offering unique experiences such as paddleboarding, birding excursions, wellness activities and night-sky photography. These partnerships create opportunities for local businesses while allowing more people to experience our province’s natural beauty. More information is available at www.saskparks.com.

Recreation and tourism opportunities are also expanding with the opening of new mountain bike trails at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park. The project includes approximately 1,000 metres of new climb trail and 860 metres of intermediate flow trail featuring berms, rollers and jumps. This is the most significant mountain bike trail investment completed in the park and further establishes Buffalo Pound as a premier destination for outdoor recreation.

Recovery work is underway at Narrow Hills Provincial Park following last year’s wildfires. More than 81,180 tree seedlings were planted in June, along with nearly 1,000 larger trees transplanted into fire-impacted campgrounds. These efforts will help restore the park’s landscape, improve the visitor experience and ensure future generations can continue enjoying this special place.

Alongside enjoying Saskatchewan parks and outdoor spaces, residents and visitors can help protect the natural areas we all value. As boating season continues, residents and visitors are reminded that stopping for watercraft inspections and following Clean, Drain and Dry guidelines are important steps in preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species.
