Opposition Statements on Firearms Regulation

Mr. Jenson: — Mr. Speaker, it feels like Groundhog Day, when things appear to be recurring in the exact same way day after day after day. Yesterday we learned the NDP opposition can’t seem to keep a consistent position on important issues like liquor laws. The NDP SLGA [Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority] critic said he supports this change, while the member from Nutana opposes it.

Now we learn that they can’t keep a consistent message when it comes to the firearms Act. Bill 117 passed in this Assembly unanimously, with all members present voting in favour. The member from Rosemont said in the media regarding Bill 117, and I quote, “We stood in support of the Act.” Crystal clear, wouldn’t you agree, Mr. Speaker?

Apparently not. The member from Nutana recently posted on Instagram about Bill 117, and I quote, “This bill continues to seed strife and division. Promotes fear.” She opposes municipalities being able to allow alcohol consumption in parks. She opposes her own colleagues how they voted on the firearms Act, and she opposes the federal rights of lawful firearms owners by siding with the Liberal-NDP coalition who want to take away those rights from Saskatchewan people.

Mr. Speaker, Mark Twain once said, “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes. It will change.” I think you can say the same thing about the NDP’s position on just about anything.
