Introduction of Guests (1 May 2023)

From Hansard (1 May 2023)

Gordon Heidel

Mr. Jenson: — Thank you, Mr. Speaker. It’s my privilege and honour today to introduce Gordon Heidel who is seated in the west gallery this afternoon. So if Gord can give us a quick wave.

When it comes to education in the trades in our province, Gord’s name will often come up in the conversation. Starting his career in 1987 in Lucky Lake and taught at Cochrane High School in Regina for 20 years, Gord has also served as the Regina District Industry Education Council executive director for nearly 10 years and now works half-time as a program facilitator with the RDIEC [Regina District Industry Education Council]. And he was also a consultant with the Regina Public School Division and for a time was a practical and applied arts coordinator and a member of the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission for the Minister of Education.

Mr. Speaker, Gord attended his first Skills Canada competition in Red Deer in 1997, and spent the next year promoting and helping organize the first-ever Skills Canada Saskatchewan competition in Regina in 1998. He’s also Vice-Chair of Skills Canada for 15 years.

I’ve known Gord for many, many years, Mr. Speaker, and he’s not only a trusted friend of mine, but I’m also proud to say he is my brother-in-law. I think I can speak for my wife and all the family to say that we’re very proud of Gord’s accomplishments, his professional accomplishments, as well as his motivation and desire to see kids across our province succeed in the trades.

With that, Mr. Speaker, I ask all members to please join me in welcoming Gordon Heidel to his Legislative Assembly.
