Martin Smith

Mr. Jenson: — Thank you, Mr. Speaker. In your gallery as part of the group from Access Communications today is a good friend of mine from The Battlefords, Martin Smith. And when you talk hockey in Saskatchewan, it’s hard to not talk about the Smith family, and Martin was a player with the North Battleford North Stars. His sister Fiona is a good family friend of ours as well. Interesting fact about Martin is his nephew Kian led the North Stars in scoring this year and is leading in the playoffs with 14 goals so far in 11 games.

Something really neat about Kian: my wife and I were in Ottawa in 2005, and Fiona needed a babysitter, so she brought Kian to the hotel. We spent the next two hours in the hallway playing mini sticks. So I’d like to think I had something to do with Kian’s success on the ice, but really it belongs to his uncle Martin. His uncle Martin was a terrific hockey player in his own right, and I’d like to welcome him for the first time to his Saskatchewan legislature. Thank you.
