India-Canada Cultural Association of Saskatoon Hosts India Night

Mr. Jenson: — Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Our province’s population is growing at a rate not seen since 1914. And much of that growth can be traced back to many different countries around the world as more and more people make Saskatchewan their home. Mr. Speaker, over the last five years India has been the largest source of newcomers to our province. Of the 71,394 individuals that have come to Saskatchewan in that time, 28 per cent or 20,162 have come from India.

Mr. Speaker, my family and I spent the evening of March 26th celebrating India Night in my home community of Warman. The Brian King Centre was filled to capacity, and the energy in the building was electric and fun. The event was hosted by the India-Canada Cultural Association of Saskatoon and featured a variety of dance and musical performances, terrific cuisine, and it was the perfect setting to learn about India culture.

Mr. Speaker, the ICCA [India-Canada Cultural Association] takes great pride in fulfilling its vision of working towards the betterment of the community and fostering a sense of unity and diversity among its members. Mr. Speaker, I’d like to thank President Laxmi Patel and the entire ICCA executive as well as all the volunteers for all that they do on behalf of the Indian community in Saskatoon, and wish them all the best as they celebrate their 55th anniversary this year. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
