Introduction of Guests (22 November 2022)

Rahim & Alia Ahmad; Michael Walker

Mr. Jenson: — Thank you, Mr. Speaker. To you and through you this afternoon, I’d like to introduce some guests seated in your gallery. I’d like to first welcome Rahim Ahmad and his wife, Alia, as well as Michael Walker. Mr. Speaker, Rahim was born in Pakistan and moved to Canada in 1995. He graduated from Warman High School, I believe, in 2009 — yeah, I’m getting a nod — and has since completed a civil engineering degree at the University of Saskatchewan and is a project engineer and project manager for Associated Engineering.

Rahim was recently named Young Professional of the Year by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies — Saskatchewan last week in Saskatoon. It’s an event that I’ll be providing some more information on very shortly. But Rahim’s contributions, Mr. Speaker, go much further than that. He’s a board member with the Saskatoon Open Door Society and also volunteers with Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in Saskatoon. He’s helped organize community events such as Muslims for Remembrance Day, virtual Ramadan, and is a youth leader helping young newcomers to our province succeed in their cultural, social, and economic environments. Mr. Speaker, Rahim is also a volunteer with the Sunflower Network.

I’d also like to thank Alia for joining us as well today. She’s completing her pharmacist internship and was able to take some time away to accompany us today. And Michael is the manager for Associated Engineering’s infrastructure group here in Regina and was Rahim’s mentor.

I’m looking forward to spending some more time with them following question period, Mr. Speaker. And I ask that all members of this Assembly join me in welcoming Rahim, Alia, and Michael to their Saskatchewan legislature.
